Bronx County is one of the five
counties (boroughs) that compromise the City of New York. Bronx County (or "The
Bronx", as it is commonly called) is the northernmost county in New
York City and is across the Harlem River from Manhattan and
lies across the East River from Queens. The Bronx is the home of such
notables as Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, Roger Clemens, and Edgar Allen Poe. At one time, the Bronx was
all farmland owned by a family named Bronks. The wealthy would travel
to visit the Bronks family, and would simply say that they were going to
the Bronks', and the name stuck.
